The retail wine extension Absinthe Brasserie and Bar, Arlequin Wine Market offers 800 selections of carefully chosen labels. With prices beginning at the $8-to-$16 price point and ranging upwards to rare selections of high value, Arelquin offers something for everyone. The shop features a wide selection of domestic, French, Italian and Spanish varietals, including many small-production wines. A zinc-topped tasting bar at the entrance offers  shoppers the chance to sip and sample, and hosts weekly, themed tasting events every Thursday evening from 6-8pm for approximately $10-$20.  The Arlequin Monthly Wine Club ($59 per month) features two themed wine packages shipped monthly, exclusive buying rights upon the release of new wines, with added discounts on merchandise and
tasting events.

The Scene: Arlequin Wine Merchant features robin’s-egg-blue walls and warm woods reminiscent of a turn-of-the-century general store.

Inclusion worthy notes: The same wine buyers who put together the award wining wine list at Absinthe also stock Arlequin.

    Rating

    Portabello mushroom sandwich au poivre
Bottles of rose & sauvignon blanc
    Crisp sunny SF afternoon
Sit in the little garden out back (fingers crossed to avoid birds) or on the very Parisienne bistro chairs out front.
    Enjoy.

On days that are grey_and_not_so_inviting, sit inside, and open up your laptop. The chicken and fries are delicious. The coffee in the Romanesque vats is also great. The tables are generous, visitors buzz in and out to keep you focused.

If the sun is peeking in and out, and shines only occasionally on this corner of Hayes Valley, sit up front, on the barstools facing out the glass panes.

Any which way, Arlequin is a great venue to either catch up with friends, or work alone by yourself. The food is phenomenal, the drinks diverse, and the staff quite cheery and welcoming.

As for Paris (with its pouts, shrugs and hubris), it can stay on the other side of the Pond and mourn Vercingetorix – Arlequin is an appropriately airy bistro in the American West.
